Ontologies instead of schemas?

Developing and using existing ontologies instead of developing specific schemas for a project means that the data can be consumed in a very rich way by many clients and applications.

Using Solid and ontologies we can develop rich applications for storing complex resuable data, and publishing it easily. For consumpion by a website, an app or another service.

Is Solid good enough? Fast enough for storing complex data? For retrieving this data?
